Xander is repairing the lounge window and keeping out of Anya's argument that William the Bloody is back in business. Andrew is walking and telling Warren[The Other] that he can't kill anyone else. Warren[The Other] changes into Jonathan[The Other] and says that is wasn't that bad being killed. Buffy has Spike tied to a chair to stop him killing again.
Principal Wood is disciplining two students when Dawn tells him, very graphically, how Ill Buffy is and that she won't be coming into work. Buffy is fine. She is trying to find Giles, but the Watchers Council are not overly helpful. They want to find him for their own reasons.
Buffy is looking after Spike as he turns into his vampire self. She tells Willow that he is having withdrawal symptoms, after feeding off humans, that he needs blood. Willow asks if she should kill Anya.
Warren[The Other] needs more blood for the artefact in the school basement. He/it talks Andrew into killing a pig, but Andrew can't even catch the pig. Andrew goes to a butcher's shop to buy some blood. He bumps into Willow on the way out and drops the blood. She chases him. He begs for his life, even though Willow isn't (yet) threatening him. He won't explain why he needs the blood. After a few fake threats, she takes him to Buffy's house.
The gang aren't happy to see him and he claims "you'll get nothing out of me". Xander ties him up and Anya tramples on his expensive coat. Anya and Xander question him - obviously Anya is the "bad cop".
Buffy feeds the blood to Spike. [Ed: Both Buffy and Spike believe that his chip has been de-activated - But, unless I'm imagining things, it has been working except when Spike was under the influence of The Other.] Spike tells Buffy how he got his soul back, of the trials he went through. Spike claims that he now understands pain, violence and Buffy.
Xander returns to Andrew, as the good cop, and encourages him to talk by telling him how bad Anya is. Anya, well into her act, returns to the room and attacks Andrew. He agrees to talk. Buffy leaves Spike to find out what the noise is.
Spike[The Other] is with Spike. Buffy returns and hears singing. She enters the room and Spike is, apparently, alone. Buffy is cautious, but Spike still breaks free and pulls Andrew through the wall as he starts telling Anya about the artefact. Spike starts to drink Andrew, but Buffy pulls him off and knocks him out.
Andrew is alive and Buffy explains to the others what happened, as far as she is able. Xander suggests that the song Buffy heard, in the room and in the basement (in the last episode), is a trigger planted in Spike's mind to control him. Buffy sets the gang working to find out what could have done this to Spike and how to remove the trigger.
At the school, Principal Wood is working late. On his way out he hears a noise in the basement and goes to investigate. He finds Jonathan's dead body on the artefact.
Spike is chained to the wall in Buffy's basement. She tells him about the trigger and he tells her to kill him. He claims that she can't kill him, not because of love, but because she needs men who hurt her, that she needs the pain to do her job. She denies it. She denies that he knows her and she says that he doesn't even know himself anymore. She tells him that she has seen him change, has seen him face up to his inner demon and that she believes in him.
Cloaked men with axes burst in through the house windows and attack the gang. Principal Wood secretly buries Jonathan's body. [Ed: Is he a watcher, evil or very protective of his school?] The gang, barely, fight off the demons. Once the fight is over, they find Spike has been taken. Buffy recognises the men. She knows what they are fighting - The First Evil.
The watchers council is under attack, their operatives around the world are being attacked and their records destroyed. They know that they are under attack from The First Evil. They plan to strike back, which involves a visit to the Hellmouth. The council's office appears to explode.
Spike is tied up and cut by the hooded men, who work for The Other. He is bled to provide the blood to open the artefact/seal. An ancient vampire rises.
