A hitchhiker is picked up by a strange bus in the middle of the Utah desert. Shortly afterwards he witnesses the driver, apparently, murder one of the passengers while the other passengers watch.

Scully is called in to investigate some anomalies discovered during the autopsy.

While Doggett is looking for a previous X-File, Scully encounters some very strange locals who are "looking after" the, now dying, hitchhiker.

Scully is asked to help him, finds a "parasite" in his spine, then becomes the next victim of the local cultists.

Doggett travels to Utah looking for Scully, who is missing. He manages to find her and remove the parasite just before it reaches her brain.
