[Flashback to Scully's abduction and subsequent pregnancy.] A woman gives birth to an alien baby. Scully is in her flat looking at an ultrasound scan of her baby.
Later, the woman's husband turns up at Scully and Doggett's office claiming his wife was murdered because of the birth. The woman, like Scully, was unable to have children after being abducted by aliens.
The husband has an ultrascan photograph, which he claims proves that the embryo was implanted by aliens. Doggett compares the woman's history of abduction, cancer and pregnancy to Scully's own history.
[Flashback to Scully telling Mulder that she can't have children after her abduction.]
Scully goes to Zeus Genetics where another woman has given birth to an alien baby. Scully, avoiding the staff, ends up in a room with hundreds of alien babies preserved in specimen jars.
Scully gets home, compares her ultrasound to the dead woman's scan and they are similar. She telephones her doctor for his opinion, but he is in the storage room at Zeus Genetics and appears to be involved.
[Flashback to Scully talking to her doctor about who the father of her test tube baby will be.]
The husband is brought in for questioning as he has been threatening the Doctor at Zeus Genetics, but he appears to be secretly working for them.
[Flashback of Mulder agreeing to be the donor.]
A pregnant abductee arrives at Scully's apartment claiming that both of their babies are in danger. Scully takes the abductee to an army hospital to have her baby.
Doggett is investigating the husband, as he appears to be an intelligence or CIA agent. Scully discovers that the doctors at the hospital are involved in the conspiracy.
Doggett convinces Skinner to tell him where Scully is so he can warn her of what he believes is a planned set-up. Doggett's friend in "intelligence" arrives at the hospital with a team, apparently to help get them out of the hospital. But, they appear to switch the alien baby for a human one.
[Flashback to Scully telling Mulder that the test tube baby didn't work and she is not pregnant.]
