Buffy tells Giles what she knows about Dawn and they decide to keep it a secret from everyone else, including Dawn.
Buffy moves out of her dorm and back home to look after Dawn. Willow is organising a party for Tara's birthday, but things go wrong when Tara's family arrives. They want to take her home, as (they claim) the demon inside her will take her over when she turns 20.
Glory enlists some demons to kill Buffy. Unfortunately, Tara casts a spell so that the gang can't see the demon in her. Riley is feeling more and more left out by Buffy and goes to a demon bar to drown his sorrows.
The demons arrive at the magic shop to kill Buffy, but Tara's spell backfires - the gang can't see any demons, including the ones that are attacking them. Spike arrives, ostensibly to watch the demons kill Buffy - but he ends up helping her (he is still dreaming of her).
Tara reverses the spell and tells them what her family claims. The gang protects Tara from her family and Spike proves she is not a demon. The family's lies are revealed.
