Buffy and Dawn attempt to run from Glory. But, even Willow's magic only slows her down for a few seconds and she catches them easily. They are saved when Glory is hit by a truck and Ben takes over his body.
Dawn tells the gang what happened and they plan what to do next. Anya's plan of dropping a piano on Glory is rejected! Buffy decides they cannot fight Glory and should leave town.
Ben talks to one of Glory's demons about stopping Glory and one of his options is to destroy The Key. The gang leave town, with Spike, in a stolen motorhome.
The knights sign-out one of their number from the psychiatric ward where he had been since [S5-13 Blood Ties] when Glory tortured him. He tells their general that the key is in human form. The knights march to attack the gang.
The gang are driving through the desert when they are attacked by the knights. In the fight Spike's hands are injured. Giles is hit by a spear and crashes the motorhome. The gang walk to an abandoned petrol station, where they are surrounded and attacked by the knights. Willow conjures an energy barrier to protect them for a while. The knight's general is trapped inside the barrier.
Tara and the patients in the psychiatric ward all get agitated and say it is "time". Giles is badly injured and Buffy arranges permission from the knights to call a doctor. She calls Ben.
Buffy questions the general who tells her of Glory's history. Glory ruled a demon dimension along with two other gods, but they cast her out when she became too powerful. She was sent to this dimension, trapped in the body of a mortal (Ben) who was created as her prison. Glory can be killed by killing the mortal, which Buffy does not know is Ben.
The general tells Buffy and Dawn the purpose of The Key. It was created to open the doors between dimensions. It will open all the doors and all the dimensions will merge leaving the universe in chaos. The general tries, and fails, to talk Ben into killing Dawn.
Ben starts changing into Glory and demands to be let out. But, before they can let him out Glory completes the change. Glory quickly fights off Spike and Buffy. She takes Dawn, breaks through the barrier, kills all the knights and disappears with Dawn. Buffy just sits down exhausted.
