[Wisconsin, 1985: A couple take their daughter to a private boarding school. She is not allowed contact with the other children and has to wear gloves. When she innocently touches a boy's hand with her glove off, he is electrocuted.] The gang are at Cordelia's apartment, which they have not been able to pay the last month's rent on, clearing her things out. Angel is thinking of ways to try and find Cordelia. Phantom Denis is upset that they have not found her yet.
Angel finds Wesley, who has his own team now, fighting demons. He thanks Wesley for saving him and tells Wesley that things are OK between them. Wesley gives him all the information he has on Cordelia and tells him that he believes she is alive. Wesley gives Angel details of a demon that only the dead may see, who may be able to tell him where to look for Cordelia. Angel finds the demon, who tells him that he must find the Axis of Pythia to find Cordelia.
The girl, now a grown woman and a professional thief, is being paid to steal the Axis.
Cordelia watches from above as Fred explains to the others (mostly to Gunn as Angel knows most of what she is telling him) about the Axis and the auction house where it is being stored. Gunn suggests buying it, until the others tell him its price tag of 33 million dollars.
Lilah tells Wesley that he, inadvertently, did her a favour by freeing Angel as Connor is now vulnerable to friendly overtures from her.
The girl breaks into the auction house, using her electric touch to bypass the security systems. Angel, Fred and Gunn break in seconds after her. Angel is locked out of the vault by the girl. He tries to persuade her to lend him the Axis, which she has just stolen.
She starts to leave as Angel opens the vault gate. Gunn charges her. He is electrocuted by her and killed. The girl remembers the incident with the boy at her school and uses her power to shock him and re-start his heart. Angel lets the girl go so that he and Fred can take Gunn to the hospital.
Connor is wandering the streets and sleeping rough. Lilah is watching him as Angel walks up behind her. He gives her an hour to find the name of the buyer, in return for ignoring her proximity to his son - once. He can smell that she has been with Wesley.
At the hotel, Fred is in tears because Gunn "died and left her on her own". The girl is taking the Axis to the buyer when Angel finds her. They fight and end up in a lift. She shocks him and his heart starts beating for the first time since he was human.
The lift is suddenly sealed. The buyer is planning to double-cross the girl and floods the lift with poison gas. Angel breaks through the insulation in the lift to allow the girl to use her power to open the doors. Angel fights the buyer's thugs.
The girl recovers and goes to kill the buyer. Angel stops her and knocks the buyer out. The girl gives him the Axis and leaves.
Back at the hotel, Angel uses the Axis to find out where Cordelia is. The gang are sad for their loss, but they believe that Cordelia is happy as a higher being. Cordelia shouts down "What are you, deficient? Get me out of here."
