The demons, on motorcycles, attack Robot Buffy (which/who is having a systems failure). Willow has been injured performing the ritual. The gang split up to make their escape and avoid the demons Xander carries Willow and Tara goes with Anya. Robot Buffy is being beaten up by the demons. Buffy is now alive in her coffin and fighting to get out.
Willow, semi-recovered, thinks that the ritual has failed and Buffy is lost. Anya and Tara are hiding from the Demons. Anya is worried that the demons will loot "her" magic shop. The demons are busy destroying Sunnydale. Spike is protecting Dawn.
Buffy breaks free from her grave, turns around and sees her tombstone. She walks into Sunnydale, which looks like a war zone. Anya and Tara make it to the magic shop, but Willow and Xander are lost in the woods. Tara casts a spell to create a ball of light which guides them out.
Buffy is wandering around in shock. Spike, taking Dawn to "safety", sees the damage the demons are causing and is envious of the fun they are having. He steals a demon's motorcycle for Dawn and himself.
Willow and Xander make it back to the magic shop safely. Willow wants to look for Dawn and Spike. Anya doesn't think they can fight the demons without Buffy. Willow tells her that they failed and Buffy is not coming back.
The demons are planning to make Sunnydale their new home. They celebrate by destroying Robot Buffy, which Buffy arrives just in time to witness. The demons see Buffy. Thinking she is another robot, they chase her.
The gang are looking for Dawn and Spike when they run into Buffy. Willow is the first to realise that it is Buffy and not the robot. Buffy runs away from them into an alley. They find her, still in shock. Xander realises that, while the spell worked, they left her to wake up inside her coffin. Xander is trying to talk to her when some of the demons find them.
They try and talk themselves out of the situation, but a demon hits Willow and Xander knocking them out. This triggers something in Buffy and she recovers enough to fight the demons. Spike and Dawn find the remains of Robot Buffy, which is operational enough to tell Dawn that it saw Buffy. Dawn runs off to find Buffy, leaving Spike behind.
The gang, now with Buffy, win against the demons. Buffy is still not herself and she runs off just before one of the demons recovers and attacks Xander. Buffy returns to the scene of her death, followed by Dawn.
The gang manage to kill the demon, then they go after Buffy. Buffy is at the top of the tower, remembering her death, when Dawn arrives and asks how she is alive. The tower is unstable and Dawn tries to talk Buffy off it. The tower starts to collapse and Buffy recovers in time to get both of them off it seconds before it does. She is back.
