The gang are looking for Buffy. Willow is worried that Buffy may not recover. Dawn takes Buffy back to their house. Buffy looks around the house and notices all the changes, she is still recovering. Dawn tells Buffy that Giles has left. Spike arrives, looking for Dawn, and sees Buffy. Now he is in shock!
Spike realises that Buffy injured her hands clawing her way out of the coffin, as he had to do it himself. Spike tells her that she was dead for 147 days. She tells him that it was longer for her.
The rest of the gang arrive and start asking questions. Spike leaves. Dawn tells everyone to back off and Buffy says she just wants to sleep. Buffy appears to be more recovered, but the gang are still worried about her.
Xander and Anya find Spike outside the house, crying. Spike is happy that Buffy is back and upset that he was not told about the plan to bring her back. He believes that Willow knew that if Buffy was brought back "wrong" they would have to kill whatever was brought back. Spike leaves, offering a warning that there are always consequences with magic.
Willow telephones Giles to tell him the news, he takes it relatively well and says he will come back in a couple of days. Willow is still worried that Buffy didn't come back "right", but Tara reassures her that Buffy is OK.
Tara is wrong. Willow and Tara see an angry "Buffy" in their room that night. But, when Willow turns the lights on she is not there, she is asleep in her own room. Willow calls Xander, at the same time something possesses Anya for a few seconds. The gang think a demon has come back with Buffy. Anya, unsubtly, tells Buffy what they think has happened.
The gang research how to kill the possible demons. Buffy leaves to patrol. The demon is now in Dawn. She attacks them, shooting fire from her mouth, then the demon leaves her.
Buffy goes to see Spike, who tells Buffy that he has kept his promise and looked after Dawn. Xander asks Tara if she, or Willow, knew what could happen. She says that they did not. Willow discovers that they created the demon - a consequence of getting Buffy back.
The demon does not have a body, so it is borrowing theirs. If they magic the demon away, their spell will be reversed and Buffy would be dead again.
The demon possesses Xander as Willow is telling them that the demon will die naturally unless it kills Buffy. At her house, Buffy encounters the demon in a gaseous form that she can't fight, but which can attack her. Willow and Tara cast a spell so that Buffy can fight the demon and Buffy decapitates the demon.
Things are getting back to normal. Dawn goes back to school and Buffy even makes her a packed lunch. Buffy thanks the gang for bringing her back from hell.
Buffy sees Spike at the back of the magic shop. He offers to help her if she needs anything. Buffy tells him that wherever she was, it wasn't hell. She was happy there and she thinks she was in heaven. She wasn't rescued from hell. She was taken from Heaven, by her friends.
