Buffy is in the basement attempting to fix a dripping pipe. She fixes it, but the rest of the pipework fails spectacularly, spraying water everywhere. The basement is flooded and the plumber tells them that all of the pipework needs to be replaced. The plumbers estimate looks like a phone number.
The gang tell Buffy that she is almost broke. Joyce's life insurance was mostly spent on hospital bills. Buffy, joking, suggests burning the house down and collecting the insurance.
Anya suggests charging for slaying vampires. Anya walks out after Xander does not support her idea, she is upset because he has not told anyone about their engagement.
Buffy goes to the bank for a loan. The loan officer has just refused her a loan when demons enter and rob the bank. Despite Buffy fighting them and saving the loan officer's life, she still does not get the loan - or a fee for saving him!
While Buffy is training, Willow tries to make Buffy angry because she has not been expressing many emotions since she has come back.
Anya is still trying to talk Xander into telling the gang about their engagement. Dawn is helping with research for the first time when Giles arrives at the shop. He and Buffy are happily reunited, but he is worried about her. Giles tells the gang that the demons are mercenaries.
The demons are working for Jonathan, Warren (the robot maker from [S5-15 I Was Made To Love You]) and the brother of the demon-dog breeder. The demons want Buffy dead as their payment.
Giles is staying at Buffy's house. She tells him of her money problems. Jonathan's gang are reluctant to kill Buffy, even if they can. But, to save their lives, Warren gives the demons Buffy's address.
Giles meets Willow in the kitchen. He asks about the spell she cast, then berates her for her stupidity, arrogance and the risks to the world if the spell had gone wrong. Willow ends the conversation by agreeing that she is very powerful and, may be, it is not a good idea for Giles to piss her off!
Outside, Buffy confides in Spike - the only one who knows what happened - he even makes her smile. Neither Dawn or Giles can sleep, they are talking when the demon arrives to kill Buffy.
Buffy saves them and kills the demon, but several pieces of furniture and the remains of the plumbing are destroyed. Buffy is more concerned about the furniture and pipework than the demon.
Jonathan's gang are enjoying their, supposed, power. The gang are trying to repair the furniture and Anya tells Buffy how much financial trouble she is in. They give up on the furniture and throw it out. Giles comforts Buffy by telling her that Joyce managed without the help of the slayer's powers. Dawn almost wants to drop out of school and work at a sweatshop.
Buffy gets a phone call from Angel. He knows she is back and she leaves to meet him.
