Spike finds Buffy in the graveyard. He wants to talk. She doesn't. She tells him that she will never kiss or touch him again, then jumps on him to save him from being staked. A demon debt collector and two vampire thugs are after Spike as he owes them some kittens. Buffy saves Spike from the thugs and he escapes. Buffy realises her life would be much simpler if she stopped saving Spike's life.
Willow, Tara, Xander and Anya are talking about what they did to Buffy. They are depressed that they took her from Heaven and want to make things better for her. Willow wants to use magic, but Tara objects. Xander and Anya leave as Willow and Tara begin to argue.
Tara tells Willow that she knows about the spell Willow used on her. She tells Willow that she is abusing her powers. Tara does not think that their relationship will work. Willow offers to go without magic to prove that she needs Tara more than magic and they agree on a week without magic. Tara tells Willow that they both need some space.
In the training room at the shop, Giles tells Buffy that he is leaving. Buffy takes it badly, wanting him to stay and help her. He tells her that she can cope on her own and that he believes it is the right thing to do. She tells him that he is wrong and walks out.
Dawn and Tara are waiting for Willow to get ready. She is still wearing a towel. She tells them to go ahead and she'll catch them up. When they leave she uses magic to dress instantly, then she casts a spell (with the words "Tabula Rasa") to make Buffy and Tara forget any bad or painful memories.
The gang are all at the shop when Spike arrives in disguise. He is hiding from the debt collector. The ingredients for Willow's spell are still burning at Buffy's house and a spark ignites the leftovers on the hearth.
Giles tells them that he is leaving for good. Buffy goes to walk out, telling them that she can't take any more. They all collapse as Willow's, gone awry, spell takes effect. When they wake up none of them knows anyone else, or even their own names.
Xander is panicking and denying that he is. They realise it is a magic shop and Giles tells them that magic is fiction. Spike has a go at Giles for being British, then realises that he is too. He wonders if they are related. Anya sees her engagement ring and thinks that she is engaged to Giles. Willow realises that they can find their names from their driving licenses. Spike doesn't have any ID, but his jacket has a label saying it was made for Randy. He thinks his name is Randy Giles. He does not like it, he thinks it may as well be "desperate for a shag" Giles. Willow and Xander think they are partners because her jacket has a Harris label. Anya finds her name on the till and the shop's paperwork. Buffy has no ID and names herself Joan, which Dawn makes fun of.
Buffy suggests they all go to the hospital, but when they open the door they see the two vampire thugs. They shut the door and hide while they think of something to do. Before they can escape, the thugs break in. One grabs Buffy and the other attacks Spike. Buffy breaks free and slays the one attacking Spike.
They are all, including Buffy, amazed at what happened. Buffy thinks that she must be a superhero. The debt collector is outside the shop with more of his thugs. Buffy decides that she and "Randy" will lead them off. Spike turns into his vampire self while fighting, Buffy sees him and runs away.
Xander, Dawn, Tara and Willow go into the sewers to get to the hospital, but they meet a vampire and run. Giles and Anya stay in the shop to try and find some magic that will help. Giles finds his plane ticket to England and Anya's first attempt at magic conjures a rabbit.
Spike catches up with Buffy. She knocks him down and tells him that he is a vampire. He is confused because he doesn't want to bite her and he is fighting other vampires. He thinks he is a good vampire with a soul. She replies "how lame is that?".
Anya tries to find a spell to send all the rabbits she has created back, but she creates another one. Xander, Dawn, Tara and Willow are hiding from the vampire. Anya's magic is not getting any better, the shop now has a green sky. Buffy and Spike fight off more vampires. Giles sword fights a skeleton.
Hiding in the sewers, Dawn has a sense of Deja-vu and Willow remembers that she is gay. In the shop Giles and Anya argue, she takes vengeance on him by hitting him with a book and he tells her he is leaving her and going to England.
The vampire catches Xander. Giles casts a spell and the shop returns to normal. He and Anya apologise to each other and kiss. In the sewer Willow falls on Tara and the crystal from her spell falls out of her pocket.
Xander, with Dawns help, slays the vampire. Willow and Tara are about to kiss when Xander accidentally treads on and crushes the crystal. They all get their memories back, mostly at inconvenient times: Willow is on top of Tara, Giles and Anya are kissing and Buffy is being hit on the head by a vampire.
Xander, Dawn and Tara realise what Willow did and Willow knows that they know. They return to the shop. Spike slays the last of the vampires. Buffy gets up and walks off.
Buffy is alone at the Bronze. Tara is packing her things and leaving Willow, who is sitting on the floor upset. Giles is on the plane to England.
Spike approaches Buffy at the Bronze then walks away when she doesn't speak. Tara leaves the house. Buffy and Spike, still at the bronze, kiss again.
