Buffy rescues a couple from two attackers, but they turn out to be normal muggers rather than Demons or vampires. Spike "helps", but gets a headache because the attackers are human. Buffy and Spike spar verbally: he wants to talk about their second kiss and she does not.
Willow is alone without Tara. She figures out how to turn Amy back into a human and does so. Amy is disoriented, but human again.
Jonathan's gang, melodramatically, steal a diamond from the museum using a freeze ray on a guard in the process (which also freezes Jonathan's hand). Amy is still nervous and Willow avoids, as long as she can, telling her how long she has been a rat.
Buffy arrives home. She tries to have a serious talk with Willow, but it ends when she sees Amy. Buffy asks Amy how she has been, to which she replies "rat". Amy asks Buffy how she has been, to which she replies "dead".
Willow is happy to have another magical friend. Amy is happy watching TV and eating cookies. She tells Buffy about the frozen guard.
Buffy goes to the museum to investigate and finds Spike there. She says that when she kissed Spike she was thinking about Giles, but not in the sense that Spike thinks she means! He is not convinced. They fight and he hits Buffy, but it does not hurt him. He covers it up. Spike thinks that his chip is deactivated, so he attempts to attack a woman in an alley, but the chip is still working.
Dawn drinks a very large milkshake after seeing a movie with Tara. Dawn asks Tara if she will ever get back together with Willow.
The gang can't find any information on the freeze ray. Willow's attempt to use magic, which she tries to disguise with her laptop, does not go down too well. Anya, unsubtly, tells her that everyone is scared to complain about her overuse of magic - except Anya!
Jonathan's gang are amazed about the size of the diamond. But before they can do anything with it Spike enters their lair and threatens to destroy their Bobba Fett toy if they do not tell him what is wrong with his chip. They agree.
Willow gets back to Buffy's house and Amy wants to go out. There is nothing wrong with Spike's chip. There is something wrong with Buffy. Spike realises that he can attack Buffy.
Dawn arrives home with Tara and blackmails her into staying until Willow gets there. Willow and Amy play pool, without cues. Amy arranges a suitable date for Willow (with magic), but Willow declines. The two men Amy was dancing with, try to force her into another dance, but she and Willow magic them into display cages.
The gang's research turns up a blank, they can't find any reference to a frost monster. Anya warns Buffy and Xander that Willow's power is going to her head. Spike phones Buffy and tells her to meet him at the cemetery. She mis-interprets his "grunt work" suggestion. The gang are getting suspicious about the strange events caused by Jonathan's gang.
Spike meets Buffy in an alley by the shop. She realises that he is not hurt when he hits her. She thinks his chip has malfunctioned or been over-ridden, but he tells her otherwise, that she has come back less human than she was. They fight.
At the Bronze, Willow and Amy use magic to change things, people and sheep to their likening.
Buffy and Spike fight and insult each other. They fight inside a building, destroying most of it. They kiss. The fight continues, destroying more of the building, until they make love.
