Glory has Dawn at her house and the portal is to open tonight. She is in a strange non-malevolent mood. Buffy is catatonic, even Spike hitting her does not get a response. Willow takes charge and gives everyone their assignments.
Glory has some magic which makes anyone, except Demons, who see her and Ben changing into each other instantly forget about it. Spike has to slowly, and repeatedly, explain to the others what happened.
Glory leaves her house and takes Dawn to prepare for the opening of the portal. Glory is trying to cheer Dawn up as she feels guilty. She is worried because she is a god and should not feel guilty about anything. She tells Dawn that she will open the portal by bleeding her.
Willow leaves Anya to look after Tara and casts a spell to get inside Buffy's mind. She meets Buffy as a child. Spike checks Glory's, now empty, house to see if she is still there. Willow sees Buffy's memory of her parents bringing newly born Dawn home for the first time.
Giles is released from hospital. Spike and Xander seek the help of a demon, that Spike knows, in finding Glory. Glory is remembering Ben's memories, feeling his emotions and thinking his thoughts. She wants to open the portal immediately, before Ben can infect her any further.
Willow sees Buffy with her guide from [S5-18 Intervention]. Glory looses her control and almost strangles Dawn. Glory is not handling her (Ben's) emotions well. Willow watches as Buffy suffocates Dawn, "death is my gift".
Ben takes over his body and Dawn asks him to help her escape. Willow is back with Buffy as a child and Dawn as a new born baby. Spike takes Xander to the demon who helped Dawn re-incarnate Joyce. He refuses to help them as he worships Glory. He attacks them and attempts to destroy a casket. Xander, apparently, kills him while Spike saves the casket. As soon as Spike and Xander leave, he opens his eyes, he is not dead.
Buffy's mind is in a loop where she keeps killing Dawn. Willow tries to talk to her and break the loop. Ben has freed Dawn and they are hiding in an alley. Ben and Glory have a schizophrenic, body swapping, conversation with each other. Glory offers Ben immortality in return for letting her have Dawn. Ben, eventually, takes Dawn to Glory's demons.
Willow talks Buffy into returning to the real world. The gang, including Buffy, meet at the magic shop, where Giles tells them how Glory will open the portal. He also tells them that the only way to close the portal is to kill Dawn.
