A family's car has broken down. The recovery truck arrives, but the drivers are vampires who attack the family. Connor is waiting for them. He stakes one and burns the other. Then he breaks into the hotel, in time to see Cordelia's return. Cordelia does not remember anyone. She does not remember who she is.
Angel sees Lorne approaching the hotel and sends Gunn to prevent Cordelia seeing him. Angel and Fred talk in the office. Angel wants Cordelia to remember "normal" things before they mention demons and vampires to her. As they talk to Cordelia in the lobby, the telephone rings and she hears her voice on the answering machine, giving her some evidence that she actually worked there.
Fred and Gunn leave on a case while Angel takes Cordelia to her room. (They cleared out her apartment in [S4-02 Ground State].) Cordelia goes through her things, trying to remember her life. She finds a photo of her holding Connor as a baby and standing next to Angel in a "family" pose.
She wanders the hotel, overhears Lorne in a session with a client and almost catches Angel with blood in the lobby. Angel hides the blood, but Cordelia finds a drop on the counter. Then Fred and Gunn return talking about killing babies. [Baby demons, but Cordelia does not know that.] Cordelia runs from the hotel and is attacked by two men at the gates. Angel and Cordelia knock them out. Cordelia is now convinced that she is a spy and the others are Russian spies who have brainwashed her.
Angel talks Cordelia into returning to the hotel. Back in her room they talk about the photos and she looks disappointed that they weren't a family. She asks if she was a Nun, as she has found a collection of crucifixes, which she places in Angel's hand. He turns into his vampire self and she runs - straight into Lorne. The gang tell her the whole truth and she takes it fairly well.
Cordelia sings so that Lorne can read her future. He is troubled by what he sees and leaves without telling them what he saw. Angel follows him and forces Lorne to tell him. Lorne asks him if the words despair, torment and terror mean anything to him. He says that evil is coming and it's planning on staying.
Cordelia is wandering the hotel looking for Angel when Lorne's client attacks her. Connor saves her, killing the demon and Cordelia leaves the hotel with him. The gang find the demon's body and are worried about Cordelia. Lorne tells the rest of them what he saw.
Connor takes Cordelia back to where he is staying. Lilah gets a phone call, which Wesley deliberately overhears, telling her that Cordelia is back. She arranges for an extraction team.
Cordelia is still trying to remember her life. She feels afraid and the only person she trusts is Connor.
Wesley arrives at the hotel to tell them about the extraction team and where Cordelia is. The team arrive, with Lilah watching from the roof. Connor and Cordelia fight them off for a while. Just as they are loosing Angel and the gang arrive to help.
Lilah calls the attack off after receiving a message. Angel wants Cordelia to return to the hotel, but she decides to stay with Connor.
The gang return to the hotel to find Lorne bound and gagged. The extraction team was a diversion so that Wolfram and Hart could find out what Lorne saw in Cordelia's future. They suspect that Wesley set them up. Wesley confronts Lilah about the way she did set him up.
