Fred's article about "Super Symmetry" [something to do with Superstring Theory] is published in a Physics magazine, she and Gunn celebrate - passionately. Angel is looking after Lorne while he recovers and trying to convince him to read Cordelia again. Lorne refuses.
Angel hears a noise and goes to investigate. He finds Connor collecting some of Cordelia's things. The next morning Fred, who has been asked to give a lecture on her article, is practising on anyone she can find.
Lilah arrives at Wesley's apartment with a present. He comments that it must be another set-up, but it's the helmet from a suit of armour. Lilah has taken the afternoon off work so that he can thank her, but he tells he that he has to leave and does so without telling her where he is going. She finds the Physics magazine open on his table.
Cordelia is decorating Connor's squat with the things that he brought back. He offers to re-train her so that she can fight demons again.
Outside the lecture theatre, Fred meets her old Professor who complements her work. Angel and Gunn are lost after the first few seconds of their conversation. Angel sees Wesley sitting at the back of the theatre. Fred is introduced by her Professor and Fred begins her lecture.
Angel sees Lilah arrive and leave again. A portal opens over Fred's head. A multi-tentacled demon comes through and attacks her. While the audience run, Angel and Gunn save her. (Wesley attempted to help, but was caught in the crowd.)
As Lilah is leaving the parking garage, Angel confronts her, but is convinced that she was not behind the attack.
Later that night, Gunn wakes up to find that Fred can't sleep. She is in the next room writing on the walls, as she did on Pylea. She is frightened and doesn't want to go back there.
The next morning, Angel has laid chairs out in the lobby to help him remember who was at the lecture. He remembers the man sitting behind Gunn with a camera. He and Gunn find the man, who says he was there to see if Fred was one of the students that disappeared.
Fred visits her Professor, as agreed, and tells him about Pylea. He is sceptical. He asks her to return to her studies and leave Angel Investigations.
The man tells Angel and Gunn that there are chat rooms where people talk about Angel, also that four other science students are rumoured to have disappeared.
Fred, temporarily alone in her Professor's office finds a mystical book, with a drawing of the demon in it. Angel discovers that the other students who disappeared were also the Professor's students.
Fred returns to the office knowing that the Professor sent her to Pylea. She is determined to kill him. Angel and Gunn try to talk her out of it. They think they have, temporarily at least.
Fred goes to Wesley for his help. Wesley tells her that vengeance always comes at a price and she will have to live with the consequences, but he agrees to help. Fred's mobile phone rings and a portal opens in Wesley's apartment.
Cordelia is with Connor fighting a vampire. She stakes him, then she and Connor kiss.
Angel and Gunn realise that Fred has left, but Fred is already on her way to the Professor with Wesley. Angel gets to the Professor first and the Professor summons a demon to attack Angel while he escapes. The Professor escapes straight into Fred!
At Connor's squat, Cordelia tells Connor that the kiss was a mistake as she does not know who she is or who she should be with. Connor accuses her of planning to return to Angel.
Angel fights the demon in the Professor's office. The Professor is in the next office and Fred has a crossbow pointed at him. Angel decapitates the demon, but it grows another head and continues fighting. Fred accuses the Professor of getting rid of any student that was intelligent enough to threaten him. She opens a portal.
He is fighting to avoid it when Gunn arrives and tries to talk Fred into stopping. Gunn tells Fred that if she kills the Professor, he (Gunn) will loose her. Gunn suddenly grabs the Professor, breaks his neck and throws him into the portal. Angel arrives seconds later, but neither of them tells him what actually happened.
Cordelia is waiting for Angel back at the hotel. They go into the garden to talk. She asks Angel if they were in love before her disappearance.
